New Scan-to-Design SketchUp Lab Features Make Design Easy for iPad Users

Scan-to-Design [Labs], a brand-new SketchUp Labs feature, will completely transform your model-building, scanning, and design processes. Complete everything with a single app and create avenues for simple teamwork.

The main goal of interior design is to visualize a room long before it is built. Every designer’s standard procedure is to visit the location, take measurements, create an AutoCAD drawing, and then import the drawing into a 3D visualization program. One of the most popular programs for 3D modeling is SketchUp. SketchUp’s Scan-to-Design for iPad has just been released to make matters even easier.

Scan-To-Design: Step by Step

On the iPad, creating a 3D model of an interior space is a very convenient and easy operation.

1. Setup the Scan: Launch SketchUp with a blank workspace, then activate the Scan tool within it.

2. Scan the room: To get every detail, move your smartphone slowly in a systematic manner throughout the space, just like you would if you were painting the walls. Comply with the on-screen instructions to obtain a comprehensive, high-quality scan. Click Done after you’ve done scanning the room. It may take several minutes to process.

3. Review your output: After processing, SketchUp for iPad will display a 3D model of the area you just scanned. Because every scan is intelligently arranged, you may focus on the information crucial to advancing the project by using the Tags panel or the Outliner to control the model display.

4. Start designing: Start your design by using the Scan-to-Design model as a guide, or go straight into 3D creation.

“Scan-to-Design allows designers to effortlessly capture, design, and collaborate – all in one app,” which significantly streamlines that workflow and improves its aesthetic appeal.

As part of the public beta program SketchUp Labs, which enables SketchUp subscribers to test new features and offer feedback, Scan-to-Design is currently accessible.
